Pentax K-s1 and K-s2 Burst Shooting

I am considering upgrading my Pentax K20D to either of the above cameras. I have been unable to find in the manuals of both K-s1 and K-s2 the performance of the cameras for continuous burst shooting at the fastest rate.
The Pentax K20D is able:
"take pictures continuously at approximately 21 frames per second. In this mode, images are saved with JPEG Rec. Pixels set to 1.6M (15361024) regardless of the save format setting (p.156). The JPEG Quality set in the [A Rec. Mode] menu is used."

I can find no similar feature in either of the above 2 cameras within the manuals. I have found this feature in the Pentax K20D useful for taking sports action photos. Is anyone able to advise if the same or better features are available in the K-s1 or K-s2?

This feature of the K-20D was quite unique. The successive Pentax dSLRs (K-7, K-5, K-3...) did not have it. Partly because HD movie recording can do it better and longer. HD frame are 2Mp, compared to 1.6 Mp for the burst speed of the K20D.

For example, Ks2 can do 1920x1080p at 30 fps for several minutes.

To sum up, modern dSLRs have a movie mode that is better than the degraded burst mode of the K20D.

Hope that the info will help.

Thanks for reply. So if you wanted to extract one image from a movie of say 3 seconds length on a Pentax K-s1 or 2 then you would have to use a movie editing program rather than a JPG editor. I have a Canon 550D which takes movies but I believe they are in MOV format they are in 1920x1080.

Correct. There are several utility softwares that can transform a movie in a series of pictures (eg TIF, JPEG), incl. Photoshop, VLC media player, VirtualDub .....

Hope that the info will help.

After a 3 movie tryout with the Canon 550D I will at this stage not replace my Pentax 20D. This burst feature in the Pentax 20D in JPG seems very useful, delete unwanted photos from burst from the camera, rather than requiring a computer to review each photo when format is in MOV. I have found this burst feature in the Pentax 20D rather unique and no other manufacturer seems to have copied this. The Canon EOS-1D MkIII 10 fps, perhaps the fastest DSLR, while being higher megapixel quality is only half the speed of the Pentax 20D and far more expensive. With the Pentax 20D I have found in burst mode you can capture the ball just leaving the boot of a football player, a change in facial expression after a player has just been hit by a solid tackle, or a birds claws fully extended as it just leaves a branch. In the 3-5 fps these shots can be achieved but its just pot luck.
