Are you using a Linux operating system. (the image of the file permissions looks as if it is), in which case it is probably your operating system applying those file permissions to the SD card.

Yes, in fact, I am using Linux. I actually solved the problem by going to the Ubuntu Software app and giving permission to Gimp to "read/write to removable storage devices." - the last option.

I also run Linux but I never had such a problem. That said, I never work on the SD card directly ; I always move the files to the hard drive before working with them.

Great stuff. Linux is much more fussy about permissions than Windows. Glad you got it sorted.
