Surprise return to Pentax ...

My KS-1 was bought [very] ex-dem in Jan 2017 with kit lens and 35mm @ £225 .
I like the camera as it is more compact for me post K10D , now sold .

It served me well for a while until I decided to focus on Fuji [ sorry]
Especially hoping for the new budget 35mm.

Now the KS-1 has aperture issues and I was considering scrapping it [ sending to someone who could fix and sell ]
I had it in the car during the heatwave , which probably did not help .

To my surprise , I need to fix it and forget about the Fuji 35 .
Who best to do this around London UK ?

Regards
dee

Hello Dee, sorry to hear you are having problems.

The link below is to the list of recommended repairers globally, with the UK towards the bottom. Good luck, and I'm sure others will chime in too.

If you can get a hold of the right part, my understanding is that replacing the faulty part is quite easy to do.

What happened to the Fuji?

I have repaired my K-S1, with a part from eBay. I had skills using a soldering iron.

If you have these skills, which isn't that hard, or someone you know has them, I see the part on UK eBay. Look for "Pentax white solenoid" and it will give you a couple of options. They sell the green one as well but that's the one that causes problems! So get the white one. I hope you can get it fixed! Paired with DA Limited lenses, the K-S1 is a truly wonderful camera to take with you everywhere.

If you purchase a white Japan-Solenoid and then your K-S1 to them with this solenoid, they are going to repair it, something quite rare.

The white Japan solenoid is best but there is another option in UK, the latest K-70 solenoid:

John Pye also does the complete repair (with the new K70 Chinasolenoid):

Thanks everyone .
I have a quote to repair the camera, so just have to clear some USSR cameras via eBay .
I have too many Fujis bought on close out , Ed dem etc, with various kit lenses and 27 , but 35 was around £359 , more than i would afford .There is a new plastic version @£160 which could be possible , but I decided that I would keep the Pentax with excellent 35 with a repair of £100 , so no contest .

Oddly, My favourite lens ,other than the 35/50 is the much maligned 35-80 in old money , having indulged in a long zoom at times , but hardly used .
I also love the crop factor of those 90s 35-80 on apsc .
Regards
Dee
