Lens Tournament: FA 77mm Limited vs FA* 85mm (Best Short Tele Lens)

I vote for FA77 here, because it's lighter and smaller.
Both are gorgeous lenses!

I have both and I love them both. The 77 Limited is obviously going to be a favorite because of its size and build, not too mention that most on this forum have only been able to use the 77.

However, as nice as the 77 is, and as ugly and large as the 85* is, I have to go with the 85*. There is absolute magic in that lens. There is a reason why you can buy the 77 Limited used fairly easily while the 85* remains relatively rare despite EBay.

EDIT - Unfortunately, that relative rarity is what will work against it in a popularity contest like this one.

At this stage of the competition its the little things that count, and the little FA77 gets my vote! Plus I never really cared for the FA* and their paint flaking issues.

I didn't expect a landslide like this!

But since the Limited isn't limited at all, and many more people have had their hands on one, I knew it was likely to win.

Just to be clear folks, it's the A*, F*, FA*, and a few other older generation lenses that are truly limited, and most of the gems are among them.

The FA77 is an excellent lens, and it's even more amazing for its size. I wouldn't disparage it at all. But the FA*85 is still better.

Well said Sandy. The '77 is a jewel, the bokeh sublime but you could cut bricks with it it's that sharp.
