Lens Tournament: DA 15mm F4 Limited vs FA 31mm F1.8 Limited

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the knockout round of the Greatest Pentax Lens Tournament! The rules are simple: Two lenses enter. You must choose one. The winner moves on; the loser is gone. Check out the bracket here, which is based on the user nomination results.

This is a semi-final match. The contenders are the DA 15mm F4 Limited and the FA 31mm F1.8.

Make your choice by voting in the poll above. You will need to log in or register if you don't yet have a forum account.
Feel free to argue, persuade, and generally carry on after that. Voting will be open for exactly 24 hours.

I picked the FA 31. The only thing I will say is that it is less handy on APS-C (where it is normal-ish) than the DA 15 limited. If your whole goal is to shoot landscapes on APS-C, then the FA 31 isn't going to be wide enough. It also isn't as resistant to flare, but it's a ton sharper edge to edge at f2.8 than the DA 15 is at f5.6.

Until now I've not voted unless I've had experience with both lenses. I have the 15mm Limited. I voted for the 31mm Limited.

Oh man, people! What am I going to do? Which one am I going to pick? I don't know! These are the two lenses I use the most! Nnnnnneeerrrrghh!!! If I need to grab just one lens, the 31mm is usually it, but the 15mm is smaller and easier to transport. The 31 is more versatile, but the 15mm gets used on hikes more. I like the 31mm's lens cap more-- screwing the 15mm's lens cap on and off can get a little annoying. But the lens hood is way more fun. But it's not going to help the lens as much as the 31mm's if I drop the lens face-first on the ground. I have to do way less PP with the 31mm for correcting for CA and PF. The 31mm can achieve more depth of field. The 31mm can do decent portraits. The 15mm can do really silly portraits. MMMMyyyaaaarrrgh!! Smoke is pouring out of my ears and my brain will soon explode. It's been nice knowing you guys...

I don't have the 31, tried to give it a chance and browsed the FA Limited club thread for a while but finally the mind control was just too much.

Can the FA 31 Do this?

The FA 31 will always be great, but the DA 15 is just pure magic - no contest.

Easy. FA31. Fast, versatile, properly sharp, and it does a nice starburst of its own. Then there's that BOKEH!
DA15 is a bit of a one trick pony. Mind you, it does it very well.

The 31 is my go-to landscape lens. I use it for landscapes more than any other lens, including the DA 15, which I also own. It's plenty wide for how I shoot them.

I have both. The DA15mm is mind-blowing but FA31mm is outstanding. +1 for the FA31mm.

On the other hand, the DA 15 is very versatile -- it can cover landscape vistas; it's an exceptional foreground lens; it does close-ups; it's sharp in the central 50% area to allow great crops. And it's got certain optical attributes that attest to its brilliant design -- flare control like no other; pin-sharp 'sun/star bursts'; and an excellent f/4 wide aperture. All this in a very, very compact package that is mechanically brilliant.

This whole contest is starting to resemble one of those polls that ask people to vote for the Greatest Musical Genius of All Time. . . and Justin Bieber wins.
