But people understandably don't scour the pages of the thread, they read the top post, see a contest saying to post in the thread, and move on. You really should either lock the thread and/or edit Adams post by updating it to say the contest is over.

In any event, there are lots of clues that the contest is over, including in the top post itself. People just have to choose if they want to take a minute to figure it out or just "drop and go".
