Hi reh321
Is there a sporting event on at the same time as the draw ?
Here it is 8.30 in the morning so some who would be eligable are at or off to work.

we have a winner

from Adam:

With all July raffle threads now closed, it's time to announce a winner! Corresponding to the 290 raffle entries, I drew a random number between 1 and 290 and got 69, so our 69th entry is the winner!

This means that @grog85361 is our winner! Congratulations!

I will soon follow up with a list of our top posters in July, who will automatically get raffle entries for August.

Just for fun, I might set up my PC to ping the forum server and log the response times as the next thread opens. Currently the server responds in 122 ms (a bit slow, but likely due to me being in Norway and this server being ... in the US?), but I'm willing to guess that shoots up quite a bit under load. Not to mention the processing needed for the eligibility scripts in the forum software.
If you can set your PC to automatically set the time from an internet server, then your time should be exactly the same as the forum server time. Then you can just look at your local clock on your PC.

How to manage time servers on Windows 10

I have an idea how to make it fairer. Instead of providing extremely narrow window of opportunity seconds, if not milliseconds wide to participate, how about making a ticket system. Any eligible user simply clicks a button, after that server stores information that this user has claimed his ticket. The winner is chosen from a list of claimed tickets.
If there are really only like 600 people eligible for the contest, why not just let everyone eligible get in (not restrict how many people can enter) and select the winner from that larger pool? I'm not sure there's a real benefit to limiting the number of entries to approximately half the people who met the eligibility requirement.

Though I guess there weren't even enough people interested in the contest to fill up all the slots, it sounds like.

Not what I was saying; I was just saying that I would find it interesting to look into how much the server response times suffered under the load from people trying to enter the raffle. Of course I wasn't home for the 3rd thread, and forgot about the fourth, so I didn't try until a few minutes past the time - at which point the server wasn't under any load at all. From what I've seen, that thread didn't even fill up? Suppose I might try again in a month :P

Anyhow, congratulations to the lucky winner!
