-Precision is the authorized repair facility, so that's where you'd get your repairs free of charge during the warranty period. You can get it fixed anywhere else at cost, but Precision should do a good job most of the time.
-Return or exchange the camera based on the retailer's return policy. B&H and Adorama give you 30 days and are very generous, as is Amazon, so you'll be in good hands.
-Warranty is non-transferable
-The original sales receipt from an authorized dealer, bearing your name (the name of the person requesting the repair)
-It depends on the nature of the issue, but for modern gear Precision offers the widest range of services. You can of course contact all of the places listed in this sticky to see if they can help you and charge less.
BTW, if you do get a new camera, I strongly recommend the extended warranty option:
Pentax Extended Warranty ENTWARRANTY-ENTRYMIDILC B&H Photo Video (<$1000)
Pentax Extended Warranty for Advanced ADVWARRANTY-ADVILC B&H (>= $1000, including the K-1)
You can also add a third-party warranty instead, if you want to have incidental coverage. Note that the Pentax warranty does not cover water damage for any reason.
Originally posted by Pentaxis I reside in the US and don't yet have a Pentax digital camera: all my Pentax cameras use film and one of them I have had repaired by the highly regarded Eric Hendrickson. I shall certainly use his services again if he is still in business.
However, sooner or later I shall want to get a Pentax digital camera, either used or new. I don't think Eric repairs or maintains digital cameras. So I have a few questions so I can plan ahead for future repairs:
- If I buy a new Pentax camera and it has problems within the warranty period, am I required to send it to a repair shop authorised by Pentax? (There seems only to be only one, Precision Camera, here in the US and unless I am mistaken they have not got a good reputation in this forum.)
- If I buy a new Pentax camera and it has problems within the warranty period that are unacceptable to me (e.g. too many, low overall quality of manufacture, etc.) what recourse do I have with the seller of the camera to either get my money refunded or to be given a replacement camera?
- If I buy a used Pentax camera I assume that any unexpired warranty transfers to me, the new owner. Is that correct? What evidence of warranty should I ask the seller of the camera to provide me?
- What evidence of the warranty would I have to provide to the authorised repair shop? Is the serial number itself sufficient evidence?
- If I get a used camera for which the warranty has expired, are there any considerations that I should think about when selecting a repair shop? (I assume I can use whichever repair shop I wish.)
Thanks in advance for any advice in response to these questions.
