Sun Camera is the sole Ricoh/Pentax repair facility in Canada. My K-1is in there now for sensor replacement. Currently running 2-3 week turnaround.

Poland: upgrade service is provided by Rüdiger Maerz GmbH, Hamburg, not Foto Naprawa (at least Ricoh Poland says so).

In Israel there is no upgrade of the camera. Please let me know if you can upgrade in Israel.

I'm thinking of sensing my K1 limited for upgrade but I have a hard time having proper answer to my questions from the people at sun camera.

I send them very simple list questions and get confusing answer to only one of the questions.

My first questions was about the price and if the shipping for the return was included and they answered me to send the camera so they will then see ...

I also asked if something else was included in the service and what was the warranty and didn't get any answer to that.

In my second email I asked if it was posing a problem that my pentax K1 is the limited edition and they answered that only the K1 can be upgraded in this program. This doesn't answer my question at all and make me wonder if they know what is the limited edition K1.

So I don't have much confidence sending them my camera when basic communication doesn't seems to be their forte. At the same time I don't have other option if I wan't to upgrade my K1 since pentax decided to make them the only dealer authorized to do the work.

My camera is 6 months old and works perfectly and while I would benefit from the improve AF performance in tracking I hate sending my precision gears to place I don't trust.

have you received your camera since and what is your experience with sun camera after having to deal with them ?

I'll let others chime in on Sun Camera specifically (and feel free to start a new thread if you'd like), but AFAIK here are the answers to your questions:

-the repair cost is 690 CAD
-return shipping is included, outbound shipping is your responsibility

-no other service can be performed simultaneously
-the silver K-1 is eligible
-there is a 6-month warranty on the upgrade service in most locations (note: this only applies to the main board and any damage that may have been a result of the service)

Actually for Poland, there is only one local service centre available and that is "Opto-technika" in Warsaw Naprawa I Serwis Cyfrowych Aparatów Fotograficznych, Obiektywów, Kamer Video. FotoNaprawa in Łódź is not authorized by Rioch and deals mostly with analog cameras as I'm aware.

In India - Authorized Camera Service Centre | Ricoh India

And if you want a bit more info - K Prabhakar Group - Camera Repair Specialist - Mumbai

I have had some repairs done there while in India. Cheaper II upgrade for the K-1 (& they may still be doing it).

This forum will serve as a resource for obtaining information on Pentax repairs, both for current and vintage equipment.

We plan to maintain a list of repair shops and have dedicated threads for complaints/reviews in order to provide service providers with feedback.
during a recent trip to Tanzania, my HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW physically separated into two parts

upon my return to Topeka I took it to a local repair shop which pres589 had mentioned in a post to the forum:

Phototronic

119 NE US Highway 24
Topeka KS 66608

785 233 0231

he was able to repair it and at a cost of less than $300

he runs a one man shop opened only in the afternoon M-F and he is not, by his own admission, the world fastest

he advises you to keep calling him to check on the progress of the repair

he does Vintage to Digital Camera Repairs with free estimates [ he does not sell equipment ]

If you want to try him out, please call him first

*************** he is not a licensed Pentax repair shop *********************

Original LeZot's Camera Center should probably be added to the US list. They repair 6x7s, Spotmatics, and K1000s.

For analog camera’s in the BENELUX area I can recommend P.C. van den Haspel.
Retired repairman with very reasonable prices. Sent him my Spotmatic, LX and two lenses that have come back great.

Used Gary's Camera service for a sensor cleaning.
Garry's Camera Repair

Worth the $60 I paid to clean my K3II. Replaced light seals, cleaned some sticky stuff (probably pollen) off the sensor and gave it a thorough once-over, cleaning mirror, viewfinder etc. Also cleaned the lens, the 18-135 which is my "bad-weather" lens, so probably fairly yucky.

Well worth the money, very good service and thorough report. He's close enough to me, I'll likely drop off the K5 and some lenses for a good cleaning.
