How similar are the K1000 and Spotmatic cameras?

Hi all, I have a K1000 with a damaged prism, I also have a couple of Spotmatics that are "not fully operable" - I can't change the battery because of the battery covers that I can't seem to be able to remove. I was wondering if I can use Spotmatics prism on K1000.
Thanks in advance.

As far as I understand it, the K1000 was pretty much the K-mount version of the SP1000, and the KM, ditto of the SPII/SPF so the prisms may well be interchangeable. The KX was the same shape but more advanced, and the K2 was a different shape altogether. Hopefully someone with more in-depth knowledge will chip in.

I think the Spotmatic prism is slightly different in size. I swap K1000 prisms all the time and I know that I tried to use a Spotmatic prism before but I don't remember why I found it unacceptable. KM prisms are interchangable.

Try unscrewing and removing the bottom plate from your Spotties, then give it a good soaking in a corrosion remover or a penetrating oil. This has always worked for me whenever I have had a camera with a stuck battery cover. You will also most likely find a corroded battery in the battery compartment, remove it and clean the chamber, not always but quite often this will bring the meter back to life.
