FA 28-70 f/4 Minimum FL 31mm--A "Simple" Adjustment?

-- My FA 28-70 f/4 lens will not open more than 31 mm (it used to). Camera says 31mm, and comparing to another FA 28-70 f/4 on same camera, it is a bit narrower FOV.
-- Anyone have any suggestions/a mnor adjustment to fix it?
-- It is a fine lens but the cost of a used one is low enough that sending it out for repair may not make much sense.

Yes AF works fine. Except that it does not zoom open more than 31mm FL, all seems normal.
It started out by not zooming out all the way unless I applied more torque than normal, and now/finally only operates in the 31~70mm range--as indicated by the camera.
