The focus ring is jammed........175+ for repair

I might just upgrade to the PLM RE version.
The silent focus is attractive. 450+ for new version.

I'm not sure why the big US retailers are charging a premium.

Sorry to hear about the damage....ouch. I've moved on to the PLM when it came out - for kids in motion I found it a nice upgrade.

I have a DA-L 55-300 with the same issue. One of these days I'm going to rip it apart (gently of course) to see if I can fix it. I'm hopeful that something is just stuck or misaligned rather than broken.

If you ever consider disposing of yours drop me a message and I'd be happy to pay shipping to take it off your hands for a shot at resurrecting it!

I would guess because it is selling very well now. I bought mine from Adorama when they had it for $399. I think that both Adorama and B&H periodically drop it down to $399.

The locking feature? You can't tell it's there unless you're going to store the lens.
