SMC 40mm f/2.8 Limited barrel misaligned

Hello, hopefully I can get some advice here regarding this issue.

After a little over half a year of not using my K5iis (I've been rather infatuated with my QS1 and 07 Mount Shield), I brought it to a local convention and at first, everything goes smoothly. However, when I attach my 40mm Limited for the first time in a while, it does not focus. I do a quick examination and noticed that the barrel is now misaligned.

I haven't dropped the lens, and it wasn't under anything that may have slowly tilted it to one side while it was idle, but obviously something did happen (which I may never find out).

So my question is, for anyone who may have had a similar experience, is this something that is probably easy and fairly cheap to get repaired, or am I just better off buying another one? I'm hoping for the former because I've been eyeing the KP and every little bit helps! Thanks!

Looking at the damage to the front where the lens cap would go, I'd say it's likely had a pretty decent whack.

Sorry to see the lens got a bad hit. Unless you think you can open and fix it yourself, I would say write it off and get this one.

Pentax 40mm F/2.8 SMC DA Limited Black K Mount Autofocus Lens For APS-C Sensor DSLRS {49} | KEH Camera

I once got an as-is FA 28-80 lens from KEH for $2, the barrel was misaligned and can't zoom, auto focus will not work either. I tried to do surgery but didn't have the necessary tools to open the front part. Frustrated I gave the lens a hit on the front banging on the bath counter, guess what the barrel seat itself lol. Auto focus works but the lens is stuck at 47mm and F4.5. It still takes pics lol.

Not my recommendation tho.

Reach out to Brian (dcshooter) on this forum. He does lens repairs and can likely provide an estimate. He has done excellent work for many on this forum.
