Get an all metal screwdriver or just a bit and place it in the screw and tap the bit /screwdriver end 5-10 with a jewelers hammer and then try unscrewing it. MAKE SURE YOU COVER THE ELEMENTS WITH TAPE AND CARDBOARD! Repeat until it comes out with reasonable pressure. I've had a lot of success with this method.

Honestly, this crossed my mind - to somehow take the tab down and just use it as a true manual, even focusing while stopped down (or opening it to focus and once focused, closing the aperture to the desired stop).

Still debating it..

I will give this a try, eventually when I figure how to get that piece of metal off the screw.
