FYI, the red does not confirm focus. The green hexagon does, (But they are often very close. Just don't rely 100% on red flash meaning focus is locked).

Are you sure there isn't at least a single focus square in the center?
Although I like the red flash, that is does not do consistently, the new display system is really less than user-friendly.

There are options for this; all the info can be found here:

Pentax K-1 Review - Viewfinder | PentaxForums.com Reviews

The look is a bit more refined that on other Pentax bodies.

Do you have the AF points enabled in the Viewfinder Overlay menu?

yes the auto focus points are enabled.. The red light flashes from the edge of the viewfinder screen but not in the centre of the dcreen. Green hexagon confirms focus lock and image is taken. I just have no way of checking where the focus point is.

Just recently I had a repair carried out after the camera was submerged in water. By the Pentax dealers here in the UK.. Could it be that they have taken the focus screen out and forgot to replace it...?

No, it's not a focus screen issue.

How much of this do you see?

What you see, only the wording at the bottom, is how I have my viewfinder set. I use a lot of manual focus lenses and prefer an uncluttered viewfinder. The nice thing about the K-1 is the ability to turn all of that off and on as needed. Go to Menu 5 and check the wanted boxes in viewfinder overlay to start.
