Shops that can Repair LX Sticky Mirror

Hello,

It's me back again. I've contacted Eric on my LX, and he will be booked for quite some time. I realized that I might be out of US due to winter school holiday when my camera gets repaired. Therefore I would like some suggestions on backup repair shops in the North America, preferrably ones that are not so busy. Otherwise, I might have some special logistical arrangements to make.

Sincerely

Professional Camera Repair in Houston. They did a CLA on a SV recently, but I inquired and they also service LXs.

Yes...they have been in business since 1990 and have been an authorized Pentax repair facility for most of that time. They have historically specialized in Pentax and should be well-acquainted with LX service and repair.

Still in the film days I had this problem on my LX. It's just a tiny rubber damper that depolymerizes after a couple of years. It has to be replaced. A more rough treatment is to paint it over with something that forms a hard and non-sticky surface. Usually available in every household - for example instant glue. This is what I did then and it worked. Mirror slap became a bit harder, but it worked.

The more sophisticated treatment is to replace the LX with a K-1.

I don't know what "instant glue is, but one should use caution with some glues (e.g. cyanoacrylate) due to the vapors having the ability to craze plastic components such as focus screens.

Pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by " craze"?

Chemically etch the surface such that it is fogged.

I wouldn't trust anyone besides Eric Hendrickson with such a repair, to be honest.
