I have a K1000SE that is in a a sorry state. It got wet and you can guess the rest. It has a bit of sentimental value. At the crazy prices that the K1000 fetches these days, a repair might be worthwhile.


One idea came to me was to get a cheap working but battered K1000 and just transfer the outer bits of the shell on mine to this one. I am still mulling the ethics of converting a regular K1000 to the slightly more rare K1000SE.


But perhaps this is something for the OP to consider? From the outside it will look the same but it will work. It will even have the same serial number.

Good idea except for the electronics problems with the Super Program.
However, you do make a good point; this could be a nice DIY project.
Paying $200 for repairs is a stretch.
