Mode dial stucked at Manual

Hi all,

My K-01 experienced the mode stucked at 'M' no matter how I turn the knob. I've digged out similar posts, there are:

1) Due to contact dirty while switching between classic manual lens and modern lens
2) K-1 has an earlier production defects and has to be fixed by replacement.

I have tried cleaning the contact, re-install firmware hoping the software would restart by itself, both failed. Please help!

I have no direct experience with the K-01 but the same thing happened to my K-1 two years ago. The problem with my camera was mechanical, something actually broke and exactly as it is for you, my K-1 would only operate in manual mode. If it's the same thing for you and your K-01, this has to be sent to the repair shop for a fix. Sorry.

I guess it could have been worse... it could have been stuck in Auto.

Well done - I'd not have the courage or confidence to even attempt it.

You didn't happen to take the front cover off? I'm curious to see what the design on the aperture control block looks like.

As I recall the mode dial has a propensity to come off on the K-01, no doubt the problem is related.

As a side note the manual focus SMC Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 lens often suffers from a problem in the aperture ring because of a similar failure on the tabs holding the leaf springs.

Thanks for sharing.
