FA 50mm 1.4 Sticky Focus Ring

I've got an older FA 50mm 1.4 that is starting to develop a 'sticky' focus ring. Every once and awhile the focus will lock up, and the focus motor can't drive the ring. Seems to happen near the end of the throw (fully CCW). I'll fix it by putting the camera into manual focus and rotating the ring myself past the spot, then putting the camera back to auto.

For sure it's an older lens and I could probably find an inexpensive replacement, but I thought I throw it out here to see if anyone has some thoughts on a quick-ish fix. Are they any suggestions of treatment without pulling the thing apart to clean it? Any success with contact cleaner (or similar solutions) that I can work into the lens from the outside? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with this problem in particular. But, I've had my FA 50mm 1.4 serviced in Vancouver Canada for $60 when it got oil on the blades. That's about a third of the cost of replacement on the second hand market.

The lens either needs cleaning and lubrication or one or more gears in the AF drive train is worn or broken. There probably isn't an easy fix other than opening up the lens to see what the problem is. Spraying a cleaner/lubricant will end up in places where it shouldn't be and cause more problems.

You would have to send the lens to someone for a repair estimate and decide whether it is more economical to replace or repair. The repair shop may even tell you it is beyond economical repair.

Do you have the name of the shop that repaired your lens? I'm just an hour away from Vancouver so it might be worth it to give them a shout. Otherwise I'll probably just save my pennies for a 55 1.4...

Thanks for the replies. I figured I was outta luck when it came to a quick fix, but it was worth a shot.
