18-135 Lens Creep

My 18-135 has extreme lens creep. Is this typical for these after a couple of years of average (maybe below average) use?

If this is not typical, maybe I should start looking for a replacement.

Advice and comments welcome.

Thanks,

No this is not normal. The DA18-135mm should not creep much, certainly compared to the DA18-250mm. (I have both.) For the 18-250mm, I used a rubber band around the lens to slow down any creep:

Simple and it works.

Hope that the comments may help.

I'd have to say yes it is normal. I've had mine for 7.5 years and it has creeped since very early in its life, but that has not affected performance in any way. I have carried it (mounted on camera hanging from a strap} a lot also, I use one at work ( probably half the age of mine and it has not been carried near as much, I don't think it creeps that much.

Mine hardly creeps at all. Nothing at 18mm hanging vertical. If I move it to 30mm, it creeps a little, to about 40mm. That's it. Not a problem.

Mine won't creep on its own but when walking around with the camera on a strap it will zoom out so I stopped do that.

This is also my experience, except I haven't stopped walking around with my camera on a strap (I don't trust myself to hang on to it without a strap and not walking around with a walk-around lens kinda defeats its purpose). If it is any consolation, zoom creep hasn't gotten any worse with time. I also find it doesn't happen (as far as I can remember) if the lens is completely zoomed in (at 18mm). I did notice some creep shortly after I bought it.

Mine creeps like Kevin's. I notice it the most on a hike, when I let the camera hang sometimes. The lens is also just a bit too heavy for me on this kind of a hike; I like having the 18-55 and 50-200 instead. I've had mine a couple of years and bought it used.

Mine creeps a bit while walking. Doesn't bother me.

Many thanks for the responses.

Mine doesn't really creep – it almost sprints to full extension. Apparently my lens is not quite as tight as most others. It works okay, but is literally always fully extended.
