Something similar happened to my DA21mm many years ago. Had it fixed, about 1 hour labor from a local shop. No need for parts in my case.

An update:

I shipped off my 43 to Eric Hendrickson and just 48 hours I get an email from him saying the cost of repair is $157, including parts, labor and shipping.

I am very thrilled and no longer annoyed!

Glad to hear it!

I need to do exactly what you did but with a silver FA77. Had very similar symptoms, and plenty of threads here suggested that this was a prelude to the lens falling apart in the field.
What did I *actually* do though? Bought another silver FA77.

So now I have 2 FA77's with stuck barrels needing the same repair.

FA77 is an easier fix than the (easy) 43 if you’re progressing to barrel separation.

That is frustrating for sure.

I say you send both them off to Eric, and upon getting them back you sell one off. I am kind of wanting to send off my 77 preemptively - come to think of it I should have sent if with my 43 as well.

A bit of an update;

Eric emailed me saying that he has to drill a couple of small holes on the name ring to replace parts. Which I told him to proceed with. He said he got another 43 with exact problem too.

So any update? How did it go?
I just bought a 43 from a forum member and the autofocus ring gets stuck as you described earlier. It’s unusable unless in manual focus mode. Quite disappointing and frustrating.

Recently my FA77 developed a grinding sound coming from the focusing gea, to my ears it was the sound of gears not quite meshing together as they should. Getting on top of problems early can mean less cost in the long run.

The FA43 f/1.9 Limited is a superb lens. I own one in Leica thread mount and it is practically glued to my Leica Monochrom.

Agreed. It's my most versatile prime by far.
