Jammed battery cap

Hi,

so wondering if anyone can help/ advise on a jammed battery cap on a Pentax SUPER A film SLR.
As shown in the attached photo, the grove for a coin and been damaged in the direction needed to open the cap, so the coin can't get purchase and slips.
I think it may have been jammed before hence the mess of a cap and drill hole as the cap came off easily at first, I removed batteries and replaced cap only for it to get stuck.
Have tried scoring away at the groove to make it deeper but may have to move on to a drill, which I was trying to avoid.

Any suggestions of where I can get a replacement battery cap and other adivice for first time film film SLR owner, also very welcome

Any help is much appreciated,

Bec

Hello,

Have you tried a big flat screwdriver instead of a coin?
One alternative is to drill 2 small holes so you can place a spanner or 2 nails grabbed by a set of pliers. Before attempting anything, use masking tape to protect the camera body.

The other alternative is to grind a new groove for a flat screwdriver to grab but a Dremel is quite destructive.

Best of luck!

Thanks,
Ismael

Have you tried eBay for a replacement ? If you measure the thread dimensions, you may find a close fit.

As it has a hole in it already, try a screw extractor.

I've removed stuck ones by removing the camera base plate then using pliers plus some plastic scrap to clamp the cap then turn it

No further suggestions about removing the cap but once it's out look carefully at the thread on the camera body - it has jammed for a reason.
It may be some grit in the thread or more likely it has been cross threaded and jammed in by a previous owner.
You need to identify and solve this problem or a new cap will have the same problem.
You may find a whole "new" base plate complete with cap is the easiest solution. e-bay is your friend in this case.

Take the bottom cover off, 4 crosspoint screws, motor insulator might be loose, You will most likely see corrosion from the battery causing the issue. I usually drill two 2mm screws and use a spanner to remove cap

You can usually find replacement caps on eBay. USCamera.com used to have various models in stock.

Corrosion from leaking batteries is the usual suspect in jammed caps, Run a good penetrating oil like PB B'laster around the cap and let it soak in for a few days.

Either cut a new slot with a Dremel and cutting disk or drill a couple holes and use a lens spanner to turn it out.

Inspect the threads, they may just need cleaning to remove the corrosion with vinegar or baking soda and a wire brush. If damaged beyond repair USCamera may have the battery compartment as well or you'll have to find a donor body or bottom plate on eBay or elsewhere.

do not use any type of oil.it will find its way to the shutter and you will certainly cry. try a small amount of alcohol after you remove the base plate as suggested by others here

Simple. With the base plate off the shutter is no where near. Alcohol will not dissolve corrosion. You can clean the oil off afterwards easy enough.
