Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 AF XR Di LD Repair question

Hello everyone,

I haven't posted in a while, but need some input. I have the Tamron 28-75 2.8 and it's not nailing focus any longer. This is tested on the K-01 and the KP. Previously, it worked well and produced good results.

Any options / suggestions for this repaired? Would it be worth it? DIY? ! called one repair center nearby (which previously did warranty work for Pentax) and they said they don't look at Tamron. The lens is out of warranty.

Thanks.

Hi Muzee,
As a suggestion, you might contact Amplis Photo. They are the distributors for Tamron in Canada.

Service - Amplis

I've had very poor results from Amplis Photo and would not recommend them.

I can't see it being economic to repair this lens.

Have you tried cleaning the lens contacts.

It might be cheaper to sell it as a manual focus lens and buy another one.

Depending on the severity of the problem, it may be worthwhile trying the a/f adjustment procedure in the camera, p63 in the KP manual, not sure the K-01 has the option. I managed to "re-vitalise" my Tamron 18-200mm like this when I noticed it wasn't quite getting bugs and such spot on, though it seemed adequate enough in the wider world.

Since the K-01 was mentioned I assume even CDAF is failing. I don't understood why PDAF has always been considered more accurate, even before the on-chip variety was introduced. For me CDAF has always been vastly superior, especially with zooms where it's often not possible to use one PDAF focus adjustment for all focal lengths.
