Not germane to the thread. Time marches forwards not backwards. You can't use pictures from a decade old advertisement in a case for a different product made today.

To be more pedantic they do say "designed to prevent". Not all designs are successful
That is the point. All they are saying is that their camera has been designed to be resistant to water ingress, not that it will prevent it.
Meanwhile, their warranty specifically says that damage from water getting in is not covered.

We also have not been told the extent of stress the seals were put under. If the camera was hit by spray with any degree of force beyond falling rain coming down on the top of it, it is outside the likely design parameter of the weatherproofing.

This is where the OPs quest is going to fail. The camera, by his own admission was not damaged due to weather.

They are saying "designed to prevent" not "designed to resist".

Hi @tcwilson, I forgot to write this in the earlier posts, but I do sympathize as what happened to you is in part a consequence of PENTAX's past advertising practice that continued for some time.
I don't think that PENTAX is obliged to pay you as the tone of its water-resistance advertising as of now looks mostly OK to me, but I'm no lawyer. Please keep us updated.

Mike, legal arguments (which I'm not interested in) aside, I totally agree. Changing phrases like "prevent the intrusion of dust and water" and "totally resistant to demanding environmental factors" to more accurate ones w/o room for different interpretations could only be a good thing both for PENTAX AND customers.

And it seems to be already there in the Japanese text. As of now, in the K-3III product information page, what was translated to "to prevent the intrusion of dust and water", i.e. "水滴や砂ぼこりが浸入しにくい", is literally translated as "difficult for dust and water to intrude".

All of this would be solved by Ricoh adding "but please be careful, because if water does get into your camera we ain't paying to fix it no matter how it got there."

Oh noes (face palm), sorry about that Allen, and thanks for pointing it out! I’ll correct that.
I didn’t remember OP’s name, thought I’d find it in the first post, the first page was already open in a different tab on my browser. That was an ok strategy except that I also had yet another tab with the second page of this thread, and on top of that page was your post. If only I read the content of that post, but my eyes were only searching for a name!

They do say that in their exclusions, they just aren't saying it in what passes for English in Texas.

A rather loose variation on it, apparently

The K-3III water damage thread takes a shocking PLOT TWIST! Did Baldwin really only soak his camera and not actually fire a weapon? Tune in tomorrow for an exciting Eyewitness News report!

(truly, I do understand a tab confusion issue. I've done it myself. Accursed technology anyway!)

Oops wrong thread. how can it be moved to the "why I won't buy a K3" thread?

Perhaps that would be more effective. A John Wayne type with a .45 on each hip and a piece of straw in his mouth in a public service announcement saying "Hey, don't you try that warranty crap here with no Pentax. Not after you let that camera get slightly moist."
