Problem with Zoom 70-200 A

Health to All. I have a problem with a Pentax-A Zoom 1:4 70-200mm.
The One-touch system is very soft, so much so that it does not keep the focal length set when the lens is tilted.
Is there a tutorial that can help me harden the ring a little?
And then why is my lens marked 70-200 2 not 70-210 even though it has all the same characteristics, including the macro function?
Thanks to those who can help me.

I hope others who know more can advise about the zoom, but there was more than one Pentax-A zoom of that size range. I expect yours is not the SMC Pentax-A lens, the 70-210 had the multicoating on its glass. (I have one and rather like it)

Yours mst be the non-SMC version. Show a picture

Here's my 'quick fix' for zoom-creep on my SMC Pentax-A 70-210.

It's inelegant, but cheap... works great on a super landscape lens.

Might work for you, too.

Cheers... M

As explained above, yours is a non-SMC product that was sold under at least three names (CPC Phase 2, Pentax-A, and Takumar-A). Despite feature similarities to the SMC Pentax-A 70-210, your lens has different optical formula (11e/9g) vs 13e/10g for the SMC 70-210.

I own the SMC 70-210/4 and it is always in the bag. Yes, I am fond of it!

The Takumar A zoom is notoriously loose. I tried taking the lens apart and using damping grease with little effect. The rubber bands look like a good idea.
