SMC-Pentax-M 50mm F1.7

I was cleaning my lens & the rear lens/element just fail out. Very strange.

I pushed it back in and turned it a bit & it seems to be in there for good, for the time being.
Any thoughts/comments on this?

I am pretty sure that removal normally requires a tool.

I know, right. Well, I just bought it off the auction site....
The round black part that holds the lens fell out (with the lens in it)....

Those lenses are rugged and f a quite simple construction. I have a 28mm M f2.8 that is missing the rear baffle and, so far, it still works. s long as you have put the part back and tightened by hand, you should be ok. Yes, inspect it periodically.

Don't just place it back in, but screw it back in (with your hand).

Yes, do screw the retaining ring back in. Don't need to make it super tight. Just get it screwed in.
