This is really disappointing to read. This is a lens I planned to buy when the money tree grows, I bought a sigma 17-50 f2.8 as a fill-gap until the hd lens came out but I really like to keep pure to pentax if I can. However, I do not want to expend a lot of hard earned cash on a lemon. Shall have to think very hard about this one - it is ok while Pentax keep replacing them but that won't last for ever, plus months without a lens while they decide.
If there is a regular issue, I would hope Pentax will fix it soon - they can’t afford to have yet another problem people think of when they think of Pentax.

Sir, this thread consists of two users who have had issues with the DA*16-50 PLM. It is almost six months old.

One of them had it replaced and no issues. The other had it replaced and found the second copy was also faulty. They sent it back for a replacement.

Three faulty lenses reported in a six month period does not make for an issue.

Three faulty lenses in six months against how many sold ?

You are making a mountain out of a molehill.

I began my thought with the word if and expressed my thought using ‘subjunctive case’, a case which is used in English when doubt is to be expressed. Please don’t label me as someone who expects bad things from Pentax.

Out of personal interest in case Pentax would not replace mine, I noted all the others having similar issues. Including myself, I have found six.

You are right, it is not many. The next 2-3 years will tell us if this is a real problem or not.

We have 5 years warranty in Norway. And there is also 5 years on repair jobs. So my 4 years left on the old one is replaced with 5 years on the new one
That's amazing! A true protection for the user.

I got a replacement lens late in December and after 4 months, I now have a usable DA*16-50

The one with extreme focus error is sent to Kameraservice in Sweden for adjustments. I suppose Focus Nordic is going to sell this lens afterwards. So any Pentaxian in Sweden or Norway, if you receive lens 3302281, take your time and test it thoroughly.
