The decision as to which to use is made by the camera after asking the lens about capabilities. By writing data into the lens file it makes the cameras think the lens doesn’t do sdm. This makes the camera use screwdrive. It works very well and so far it’s been future proof and has worked with every body that supports both sdm and screwdrive. Very old autofocus bodies with ONLY screwdrive already work prior to conversion. I check lenses using a k100d which doesn’t work with sdm lenses but can reprogram the lens files. It lets me test screwdrive before converting.
Ok my lens was finally returned today. But now I can't find the instructions, I think I am willing to try. I own a few pentax bodies K5 K10 and an ist. Thank you!!
