Female Pileated Woodpecker
Contest Number: 139 Contest Theme: Birds Lens: DA*300 Camera: K-1 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F5.6

I photographed this woodpecker in the Six Mile Cypress Slough reserve, Ft. Myers, FL on a misty morning. The sky was overcast and threatening rain. I decided to stay and made a number of nice images not only of the Pileated, but of Pine and Black-throated Green Warblers and a Red-shouldered Hawk. I really like the image because of the out-of-focus background and the Resurrection Ferns, which only unfurl after a rain.
