#1 is great, but composition leaves much to be desired.
#13 is also excellent, and very exciting, but I think it could have been processed better - it's a bit dark.

Having kicked those out, among all these really quite great photos my favorites FWIW are #7, #8 (despite the presence of a watermark), #14 and #15.

I'm curious . . . how did this particular photo require the most work? What is it about this photograph that makes you think that? The setting? Patience? The technical details? Editing? Post processing?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I have my own thoughts about the photo in question.

I do think that the amount of work someone spent in making a photograph may be indicative of something. But the photograph has to stand on its own artistic merits, and that's what these contests are about. At least, that's what I think they're about. . . .

I don't do action shots as a choice (only if something happens unexpectedly when I have a camera at the ready), but that is an amazing set of photographs. I could not possibly select one as the best or even a few as better than the rest. I am impressed.

Tough to vote.

I think seven of these are truly awesome photos.
My favorites of those are #2 and #6.
Very different concepts.
As for which one I would love to hang in my office, . . . well it's #6.
However, I vote for #2 because it's just a truly serendipitous moment.

No 6 is truly a wonderful photograph, but I have serious reservations about it . if you look closely at the riders stirrup and just slightly below too the left , I think that's an open wound and probably one of many the horse suffered in the past judging by the many scars on its belly.

I admire that photograph, too, Flanoman.

I think your reservations aren't about the photograph, though, but rather how the horses are treated or neglected. I suspect you're probably right about that in many ways, and it bothers me, too, much as the effects of horse-racing do.

But the photograph itself is another matter. A photographer is a messenger of sorts: war photographers--Robert Capa and James Nachtwey, for instance--document the effects of war on soldiers, civilians, cities, and nature, but they aren't promoting or condoning war. It's because of war photographers' work that we have a visual record to remind us why war shouldn't happen. Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, and Magaret Bourke-White's work during the depression in the US is another example of fine, sometimes exquisite images documenting misfortune, despair, injustice and suffering--and serving as a reminder why societies need to do what they can to prevent such things in the future.

So it's not wrong to ponder the mistreatment of horses in the events documented by photograph #6 and have reservations about that mistreatment.

But that doesn't and shouldn't detract from photograph #6's standing as a wonderful, well-made photograph.

A lot of great photos here, hard to pick one. I think number 2 is great as the timing is amazing but I think I would probably have to choose #6 as the exposure and managing to keep focus and the horse and rider in the foreground and also the rider in the back is technically excellent skill.

My choices:

First------ #6
Second----- #9
Third------- #11

All three of these images show intensity of the subjects, perceived motion and good composition. All other images have great merit too.
