Portrait contest

Great photos, but I don't see too many describing the subjects by what they are doing in the photograph. Most are just close-up head shots.

The invitation doesn't say anything about that. Her it is:

"The topic this month is "Portrait". Your submission can be in monochrome or color, and range from portraits of strangers through informal portraits of your loved ones through portraits of a person taken in a studio. Your submission must convey something about the person portrayed. Good luck!"

All are good. #1 for me. Face tells the road of life for this person. Great capture

It’s #4 for me, although there are a couple more of similar character that I really like. I very seldom shoot portraits - can’t seem to establish that intimate rapport that’s needed to be able to capture the best and most telling image of the person.

My Vote went to #3 because, in my opinion, out of all the finalists it is technically and aesthetically the best example of a portrait. It was a difficult choice but, I think, the only choice I could make.

#3 is my favourite. I find it a perfect shot. Pure photography retouched with discretion and the editing was kept in place.
Congratulations to the author

I am actually unimpressed. I find few signs of personalities here, just exteriors of young/fresh or old/wrinkled people. Good portraits get the viewer close to the subject´s personality. For me, #7 fits that bill best.

I thought this months entries were of a much higher standard... my vote goes to the mysterious captivating look of the lassie in number 13.
