Difference in price

In the UK the launch price is £1599 yet in USA it $1799 with currency conversion makes that £1259. This is a big difference .... Why?

The UK price has 20% VAT included, the US price does not include the US Sales Tax (Not 100% sure rates/name etc).

This pretty much sums it up. Plus, Ricoh is free to use different pricing in different markets.

1 GBP = 1.43 USD @ 11:00 GMT today

$1799 / 1.43 = £1258.04 ex VAT

+VAT @ 20%

1.20 x £1258.04 = £1509.65 inc VAT

We're are suffering from about £90 surcharge... ...which considering the price is often numerically the same either side of the 'pond' is better than usual!

I'm sooo tempted to upgrade from my more-than-adequate K5

In the Netherlands, the body was announce for €1999. Thats $2215...

Even keeping in mind the Dutch 21% VAT it's expensive (incl 21% it'd be $2178).

I'm fine with companies directly converting USD prices to EUR - $1800 = €1800 but some prices lately do seem excessive.

I've just pre ordered it in a local store. I suspect they themselves have to pay more than US customers.

I end up paying 2200usd too.
