Cool idea though.
Did you use lightroom for putting these together? Never did a multirowpano yet. like the fov and the sharpness of your shot, Bernard.

Really cool photo — however, I don't think stitched photos are useful to post in this thread, as they greatly exaggerate the FOV and resolving capability of the optic in question. You could shoot that same photo with an FA* 85, a cheapo Quantaray zoom, or really any other lens, and it'd look the same.

You can't really show me that picture and say, "this is what the FA28 looks like"

I'd recommend people only post single-exposure pictures, just so that newer readers don't get confused, especially since so many people are used to an "APS-C mindset"
Sure. No problem with that PoV.

I chose a 28mm is a wide angle, and it's a challenge in many instances in a Cityscape.

So if you have constraints, budget wise, Pano is 1 way to go and get the best out of a non-ultra wide, wide lens. 85 would in my opinion not work in this situation (too close and will take too many shots in Cityscape) and the lighting conditions will have been missed.

But I'll agree not to add any more pano shots here.

I tried to use Lightroom but it did not give me a good stitch. I'd the PTGui which helps me achieve a better stitch quicker. Alternatively consider Hugin which is free.

My apologies again for going out of point here in this thread. I'll stick to showing possible wide angle alternatives. I only have the 28 and 35 currently for wides, so I hope to see more examples out here showing other possibilities.

It's tough as there's not a lot of variety out there for us, unless we go the older ranges which is usually a compromise in the edge to edge sharpness.

Has anyone had any experience with the FA* 24mm on the K-1? A review on the forum said that it performs better on the K-1 than the K-3 due to it's lower pixel density but not much more than that. I know it is a lens that requires stopping down a lot to get edge to edge sharpness.

My FA*24 is quite worn out, probably not the best sample out there, but I found it quite pleasing even wide open. The corners are mainly soft due to the field curvature - the DOF is very different from the one found in the center. I must confress I haven't tried it a lot stopped down. On f2.8 it already loses to much superior image quality (especially microcontrast) of the new DFA24-70.
I still believe an intact, like new, examplar of this lens could fare a lot better. Unfortunately these are hard to get by.

I have just purchased a DFA15-30, and should receive it by Friday (27th May) at the latest.

I plan to spend most of June comparing it to my DA10-17, DA15, FA20, DA21, FA*24, F28 and FA31, so I hope I will be able to provide a well-informed opinion to this thread in due course....

That would be very nice, I am thinking to buy this lens also along with the K-1.

Do show us some great photos with the DFA 15-30. I am very interested in this one (though it's quite a lot of lens). There's filter solutions available as well. Only thing is it's got to be 150mm Filters!

I am hoping the new IrixLens will be comparable (at least) even if it's a prime. I wrote to them and they said that K mounts will come after Canon's and the Nikon's.

With regard to the 15-30, I am hoping that Pentax introduces a new range of DFA limiteds that maintain the small form factor ethos of the DA limiteds. The new zooms appear to be excellent performers but apart from the 28-105 (which is not a fast constant aperture lens) they are all very hefty pieces of kit.

A 20 to 24mm limited prime would be a very attractive prospect. But hey, there are a lot of lenses people would like!

A new FA* 24mm F2.0 would be fine. Not too big but quite bright (and people who complain about it's quality just don't get the lens)

Pentax K-1 with Samyang 24mm F1.4

I have been using my K-1 with the Samyang 24mm and I am impressed with the image quality. I compared images from the Samyang with the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art and the image quality of the Samyang is very close. Sharpness is about the same, contrast with the Samyang is not quite as good as the Sigma. Once Dxo releases camera and lens profiles for the Pentax K-1 and these lenses I will be able to compare the RAW image files.

My DFA15-30 arrived today, less than 24 hours after placing my order!

Physically it is big, but not huge: externally, the length and widest diameter are almost identical to the DA*16-50 with the hood on, but there is a whole lot more lens filling that potential volume. Not surprisingly, it is heavier, but not by as much as I expected as there is lot of (high quality) plastic used. It is internal focus (although it is not labelled as such) and the focus ring is nicely damped, but it turns in the wrong direction for a Pentax lens. The zoom ring is quite smooth (a slight increase in resistance nearing 15mm) and turns in the "right" direction. When zooming in from 15mm the front barrel retracts deeper into the hood - a clever design which must improve hood performance at the long end.

I have only taken a couple of quick shots in poor light, so it is too early to say much about image quality. Much more testing to come.
