Light and Shadows

Two versions of the same image from a recent early morning outing to the "Imperial Sand Dunes". I have a favorite, but am curious as to which version tickles the fancy of my fellow Pentaxians.

Both are really nice!
I think right now I prefer the color one but it is mostly because the small distracting details on the right are more obscured in the shadows. In the B&W, that shadow on the right is much lighter and my eye gets drawn there due to the increased contrast and break in texture.
With that shadow darkened the B&W might be better but it's a tough call.

For similar reasons as Matt, I prefer the color also. Not because the the area on the right though, but because of the distraction of the rougher textures that almost produce moire in the B&W, where as in the color version, you still get nice texture, plus the smoothness of the tops of the dunes and those wonderful soft color transitions.

All that said, I'd be happy to have taken either.

Thanks for the input Matt.

Thanks, Eric. FYI in the full res. version, the moire effect look is not very present. But I see what you mean.

To me, the color image both because of the warmish tone and the softer contrast has a welcoming, inviting, nice place to be look. The B&W has a harsher, more threatening, hostile look, a place you don't want to be. Which mood do you prefer? Are the sand dunes a beautiful (Let's linger & enjoy) or dangerous (Let's escape before it's too late)? The difference isn't as dramatic as I'm making out, but choosing is definitely an apple vs orange for me.
