Pentax K-1 and Sigma 70-200mm F2,8 EX DG OS HSM works nicely

We just tested the Sigma 70-200mm F2,8 EX DG OS HSM lens (lens ID 8/23) one minute on the K-1.
It works nicely. No shutdowns, locks and autofocuses as usual.

Please note that Sigma offered four similar lenses over the years:
  1. Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX APO
  2. Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX DG APO Makro
  3. Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX DG Makro HSM II
  4. Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX DG OS HSM
I am talking about the most recent and optically superior model with the OS, not the older ones.
Even this lens is already 6 years old.

That's good news. Hopefully a K1 firmware update may get my older one working. I'm still going to inquire with Sigma about getting a firmware update for the lens.

I have the 70-200 OS too

Please let me know your image quality results with the 70-200. I am stepping up from a K-5IIs and would like to know if there is a noticeable difference.

I would appreciate any feedback and or photo post.

Thanks.

Thanks for letting us know. That's the model I have, and I was getting concerned that it would not work on the K-1. Great news!!!!

As someone else posted, I'd love to hear what the image quality is like with that lens...

The performance on 36 Mpx in the center is very well.

As could be foreseen from the results on APSC the edges and corners do suffer visibly from the extension to FF especially wide open.

I guess this is where you pay for the DFA 70-200 (I have not seen full res samples of that lens on FF though).

I look forward to testing with my Sigma 100-300 f4 as well. Slightly sharper than the 70-200 but the also a bit older. Both lenses are great fast lenses on my K-5IIs and I hope they work as well or better on my K-1, since they are both full frame.

Regarding the 70-200 F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II, I spoke to Brian at Gentec (Canadian Sigma Rep) about this lens and he informed me that as far as he is aware and he crossed referenced this on his system there is not a firmware upgrade for this lens. Other notes include as far as he is aware full compatibility with all Pentax cameras, we did chat about the K1 and I told him of the issues I'm having.

Maybe it is wait until Pentax update the firmware on the K1.
