Answer :
I did with the highly rated F and FA zoom, and it's great!

Pentax lenses of good pedigree will no longer remain cheap!

The interesting thing is of course if there are any cheap FF lenses that are undervalued and actually good enough, at least if you are on a budget. Good legacy lenses tend to cost, but there are some exceptions. Some mentioned the FA 28-105mm powerzoom, and that should be one of the candidates (the other powerzoom lenses that are just FA, not FA*, are really bad). Even more so one should look for the FA 28-70mm f4 (constant 4). In reviews when it came it was optically compared to the FA*28-70 f2.8, just smaller, slower and less expensive. These two are worth considering as decent used normal-zoomes if you can afford the K-1 right now, but not much more until some more saving. Or if you mostly want to spend your money on primes, but want to complement with a good zoom. I'll be testing both of them....and I will test some really crapy lenses too....for comparison.

But if you want to pick up used FF Pentax lenses...know that prices have been rising on ebay for a while.
I'd be very interested to see what the FA 28-70mm f/4 is like because I've heard pretty good things about it but never picked it up for my K-3 because of the lack of wide angle on APS-C.

I have a number of primes that should do fine on the K-3 but as you say it's nice to have a reasonable zoom for convenience. Also the 28-70 is pretty compact. That being said if the new 28-105 is as good as it looks like it might be, in a couple of years the price on that could have come done quite a bit (well maybe be a £100 or so depending what else Pentax releases).

I have just tried a Pentax SMC 135 2.5 I bought from a forum member who obviously looks after his gear very well indeed.

It is fine. Manual, which is not yet a strong suit for me, but it is a nice lens and works well on the K-1. Nicely built and very sharp.

Earlier in the day I tried each of the 'three amigos" (FA 31, 43 and 77 Ltds) - all wonderful. I particularly liked the 43, which wasn't a favourite of mine on the K-3 and which I think is the cheapest of the three.

Oh...and there's the Porst 55 1.2. Hmmm. The copy I have has a very dubious focus ring ...sticky and uneven... and I suspect the lens has seen a lot of abuse. But it IS ...uhhmmmm...artistic(?).

I can't comment on any zooms for the K-1 as I don't yet have one.

Indeed. If you can afford a K-1 you should be able to put something better than a slow-as-hell plastic gutless optical wonder from the mid 1980s.

A 28-80 might break your testing bench. ☺

Not bloody likely : Today I was testing a copy of the FA* 250-600mm f/5.6 on my optics bench. I hate testing 35mm super-telephoto lenses on my bench, I wish I had a vertical test bench like the one Lens rentals has. The horizontal bench I have picks up vibrations for the local train station 400m away.

If it has an aperture ring you can switch the camera to manual and use the green button to meter.

That's what I used to do with this lens on my K5ii, but on the K1 it doesn't work. Either the K1 doesn't like this lens or the lens contacts have gone bad.

THIS! Has anyone tried the K-1 with that lens. I heard and read only good stuff about it.
maybe a good solution in weight,... additional to some primes carrying around!?

Worst lens to go on K-1

I am setting aside my Auto Sears 50mm f 2.0 for that honor.

I have an FA*28-70, but alas no K-1 yet, to try. It isn't a lightweight, but it's a good (actually, very good) performer on the K-3. While it's convenient with that FL range, and probably weighs less than carrying an FA*24, FA31ltd, DA*55 and FA77ltd, you really need to do a bit of weight training to carry it around for a long time, and that's with the K-3. The K-1 will add to the issue of total weight.

I actually meant that by reputation its optical quality might personally offend your equipment!

Doesn't seem to get a lot of love.

I got some surprisingly good pictures using a Sigma 70-300 APO DG lens today. Don't trade in your FA 50 F1.4
