K-1 HDR modes - what are they

Hi folks!
Coming from a K5 the K-1 offers things unheard of in this house. As I have been out late to try pixel shift in very low light on a sturdy tripod, I have not been able to avoid trying the HDR mode as well.
I don't expect in-camera-processing to be as effective as doing it in computer, but anyway, now that it's there...
So to the question: what are the different HDR modes for? HDR Auto, HDR1, HDR2, HDR3, HDR AV? Can't find anything about it in the manual. On the rear screen the pictures of a white house in evening sun looks different, and HDR3 outright ugly.
Are these different modes there in the K3?

Advanced HDR applies a good amount of clarity and color enhancement in addition to the HDR itself. It was introduced on the K-S2, so the K-3 doesn't have this mode. Here's an example of how it works:
Pentax K-S2 Review - General Image Quality | PentaxForums.com Reviews

HDR 1-3 affect the EV spread of the exposures, with HDR 1 being the narrowest and HDR 3 being the widest. The latter thus results in a more dramatic image, while HDR 1 delivers a more natural image.

HDR Auto picks between 1-3 based on the scene. I actually tested all 5 modes yesterday, and auto seemed to pick something that roughly corresponded to HDR 2 when I was shooting a sunset.

just wondering if the HDR function on the K1 works using legacy glass without the A setting? I have a K 24mm lens.
