The DA 50 1.8 that is designed for aps-c actually covers the FF image circle. Its not all that odd, if i'm correct its based off of the prior f/1.7 50mil lenses? Sorta like how the current 40mm limited lens covers the FF circle because its based off of the old M 40mm design

I saw some vignetting with the DA 50 wide open but stopping down cleaned it right up.

The usual vignetting or 'made for APS-C' vignetting? All fast primes show vignetting, at f/1.8 the 31 Ltd. shows 1.1 EV even on APS-C, the corners of the Sigma 35 'Art' are about 2 EV darker than the centre at f/1.4 on full frame.

I'm not sure I would know the difference. I just know that I see very dark corners wide open but they even out as I stop down. I haven't done a formal test. I see it at f1.8; I do not see it at f8.

What he said. and the D750 is not old by any means.

Ok so I stand corrected. Didn't see how many pages on this thread, duh.

I won't be going with the K1 only because the burst rate doesn't fit my much of my subject matter, everything else is great. I shoot a lot of ski racers going 45 mph and up I need 7 + burst rate, minimum, so I sit with money in hand waiting for the K3 III, sigh.

As few or as many as it takes to justify some complaint

B&H lists 47 full frame lenses in K-mount . . .

SLR Lenses, DSLR Lenses | B&H Photo Video

How many lenses does a person need? Presently, my lenses for the K-1 include . . .

Samyang 14mm f/2.8
smc Pentax-FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited
smc Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited
smc Pentax-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited
Pentax-K 50mm f/1.2
Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4
Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7
Revuenon MC 55mm f/1.2
Pentax D-FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro WR
Tair 11A 135mm f/2.8 M42
Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/2 ZK
Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 ZK

. . . and soon to add . . .

D-FA 15-30/2.8
D-FA* 70-200/2.8

I really don't need anything else. If anything I'm holding far too many (considering the cost, GULP!)

That's easy... how many lenses do I need? One more; just one more.

Aye! I was saying to Ming Thein over email the other day, "that's it, I'm finished buying new glass!" Ten minutes later ordered a Zeiss Planar 1.4/85 ZK.

I haven't got it yet! Using A7 here.. no need to upgrade at all. but I use a lot of PENTAX glasses on it. The result is simply amazing even A7 is "old tech".
Sounds like a real patchwork solution. That was fine when it was the only solution. Now it's more money for something that doesn't work as well.

In night clubs AF modules could easily struggle with to little light to work reliably. Luckily the K-1 AF module work down to -3 EV. The D750 and 5D Mark III does that too, but the D810 is a step behind with an AF module that stops at -2 EV. That should rule out the D810 for your kind of work.

Large aperture primes are important for that kind of low light work. I guess its not optimal to work with a tripod in the club, so It would be very practical to have a good stabilizer. Canon and Nikon cant help you with that as they rely on lens stabilization systems and don't offer that in large aperture primes. Pentax solves that elegantly by offering in camera stabilization that works with any lens. New or old, Pentax branded or not. Manual focus or not. It just works. That gives you an opportunity to reduce flash intensity and get more natural lighting in your club photos.
thanks for the insight. I wasn't really sold on getting the D810. I really don't like using flash in night clubs since I don't understand how to do flash. I just been guessing. Using a tripod is not possible because of the crowd.

I think we are helping out this guy's cause by posting in this thread. It keeps the message on the top page of the New Posts search. If there was another point to this post, I'm not sure what it might have been.

I think normal vignetting will not be very noticeable unless you have a subject with even tones like the sky.. blue sky or a white wall or etc. The transition due to vignetting is gradual and smooth.

Vignetting due to a too small image circle is more abrupt. There will be very noticeable darker corners and likely only the far corners. I imagine this will be similar to a poorly fitting hood or too many filters in a stack.

Vignetting due to either reason is relieved at smaller apertures.

Also likely to encourage the bouncer to toss you out on the street. Flash is hard on the audience eyes and doubly so for the performer.

To be fair if they have strobe lights and laser light shows going off I doubt anyone will notice.

Night clubs allow photographers to use flash. I work in the night club scene in San Diego. So that is not a problem.

That was an interesting choice, and a good one, for your K-1 !
