How is the Pentax K-1 Video?

How is the K-1 video? Is the Movie SR better than the K-3 or K-01?

The jello effect is the same. I don't have an IQ verdict yet, but it seems about the same as well- possibly slightly better DR.

Thanks Adam. I was hoping a newer, faster processor would help regarding the jello issue.

Just do a quick search in YouTube for "rolling shutter", as it is also known. It mostly affects video, due to the way most CMOS sensors are electronically read. Like purple fringing, once you see it, it is hard not to notice it.

It is less common in stills due to the way mechanical shutters work, but can be seen in stills of very fast moving things like propeller blades. Again, just search in Google and you will find plenty of still images.

Edit: See this article on Wikipedia:

Bottom line the video is not very good. If you looking for video quality I would recommend the Lumix GH4

Software-based SR always introduces jello/rolling shutter to an extreme extent. If SR is turned off on the K-01, the effect is somewhat reduced. If SR is turned off on the K-3, it is nearly eliminated. If the K-1 is similarly implemented, it isn't an issue for those who know how to properly set up video. Frankly, very few Pentax posters appear to know how to properly set up their cameras for video.

The bigger question is whether or not the compression effects (and overall video bit rate) has been improved. That is where the Pentax implementation has fallen down.

Video seems about the same as the K-3 which is to say a bit soft. The extra versatility in having both APS-C and FF video is nice though, and I think the video AF is faster but I would actually need to test that.

A slight disappointment is the FF video doesn't use the whole sensor. Image attached from a video I did on Youtube. Note the red dots on the corners of the video image.

The image is soft, prone to moire and compression artifacts. In short, not very good at all. Also, the digital stabilization is still awful.
