Thank you for sharing about the teleconverters. I have the Kenko Pz-AF 1.5x TELEPLUS SHQ and the Sigma 1.4x APO EX and they both work with my K5IIA and K3. I have tried the Kenko on the K1 with my FA*28-70 but have not downloaded the fees to the computer yet. Will do so and report back here.

As an aside, from all this tele-converter talk, what insurance policy were you using? I have some coverage under home and contents insurance for 'portable contents' that they say will cover camera gear, but have never tested the policy.
These guys - they are great to deal with.

You are always a mine of information and advice Adrian - as well as being a model of prudence. I'm very grateful for the tip about the Rogue Safari - I use it often.

K-1 with Pentax HD D-FA 150-450 and Promaster Spectrum 7 1.7x Teleconverter. The Promaster has the focus motor contacts and works delightfully with the 150-450, although hunts a little in shadier conditions. No evident vignetting - so much better than the Tamron and Kenko 1.4/1.5. This shot uncropped.

The small spider on the rose was a nice addition. I went into the house to grab my my macro lens but it wasn't there when I went back.

Need advice on a converter for my Tamron 70-200) is there one I can use with my k-1? X2 would be perfect, but I'll take whatever I want to shoot the eclipse, but I only have the 70-200

IMHO, just shooting crop mode with the K-1 would probably be a good option for that subject and lens. 105-300mm f4 on-demand.

awscreo Sir, your choice of a 2x TC for your Tamron 70-200 mm lens for the intended subject is perfect. Also shooting for an eclipse requires manual focusing. So I suggest go to the nearest Mom & Pop Stores and try out a few 2x TCs in the Stores for sharpness.
The one near my house in the Bay Area - Kaufmann Cameras - has some 20 to 30 of them for $ 5 to 12. Some known and unknown Brands are darn good.
I have the Pentax F 1.7x AF Converter - between 2x & 1.4x - and is a very good Made in Japan piece. Plus I also have the Vivitar "A" 2x Macro TC, another decent one. Picked up brand new for $ 15 from a Pawn Broker in the Bay Area.

Is there one you can suggest to me?I am totally new to converters, I thought there isn't one for Pentax ff, but I'm guessing that only applies to the af, and manual converters are available from multiple manufacturers? That's be great, manual focus is fine with me for the purpose. Are there any nicer ones out there that keep some of the sharpness? I'm happy that I don't have to buy a long telephoto in the end, I was considering picking up a vintage 400mm for the eclipse

I like it for general shooting, but for the eclipse j want as much reach as I can achieve. So a X2 converter plus a crop mode should give me 600mm, should be sufficient))

I found a vivitar series 1 x2 converter for about 100-120$, is it a good model?

AdrianM Are you happy with this 150-450mm lens? The 300mm lens was sharper or not? This week I will send mine for quarante again. This is second time already. I'm thinking to buy 300mm F4 or switch to Nikon.

Thanks
Urmo.

G'day - I am not as happy as I should be with the 150-450. Optically, it is great and very versatile for aircraft, birds, and particularly while traveling or bush-walking. However, my copy has been particularly unreliable, and on the three occasions I have taken it overseas as mymajor long lens it has failed (all unrelated failures) and had to be sent back to Japan for repair on each occasion. Other people I know have had no problems at all and use the lens quite extensively.
