I have a Novoflex Bellows camera. I have a Pentax K1 on one end (the rear standard), mounted. And a really great El Nikkor 105mm APO enlarger lens on the other (the front standard). When I turn on the K1, all I can see is the aperture wide open. The lens is obviously in no way connected to the camera. I can manually change the aperture on the lens.

What I want to be able to do is change the shutter speed on the camera and have it register on the LiveView screen, so I can get the right exposure. How can I do that, please?

In M mode, the brightness of the live view screen corresponds to your exposure, so that's the mode you'll want to use. You can also use Av mode, though in that mode the live view screen will remain bright, and the camera will automatically set the shutter speed.

To clarify:

• When using a non-coupled lens or extension device (e.g. bellows), the camera is unable to set the aperture
• When the camera is unable to set the aperture the current EV is not known to the body. As a result the live view display brightness stays essentially constant regardless of the amount of light reaching the sensor or the set shutter speed. DOF will reflect the actual lens aperture.
• When using bellows, the camera is unable to actuate the lens aperture mechanism. As a result it is important that the lens mounted has a fully manual aperture
• Av mode is probably the easiest mode to use with full manual aperture. M mode metering is by green button. The DOF preview feature may also be used, but not in live view.
