Got a pleasant surprise with this lens used on the K1 in FF mode.


























Not the ultimate in IQ, but certainly very nice for a casual day out.
Small and handy..... cheap too....

You know, I really like the look of those images... They might not have the currently-fashionable razor's edge sharpness, but there's plenty of detail (the head fur on shot #2, for instance) and - more importantly - the lens seems to "draw" quite nicely. Good stuff

Those of us who are post-processing devotees can go on using our DA-only lenses quite happily, it would seem. Raw Therapee saved profiles include cropping, so I can't see why it isn't feasible to set a cropping preference which preserves the maximum of information at widest zoom and then just tweak everything else to suit (and the crop as well, where appropriate).

Yes, do give it a try.
Rather usable from 24mm and up, which really surprised me.
I had thought I'd be selling the lens at first opportunity, but looks like I'm keeping it.

Indeed. There's plenty of MP from the K1 anyway imo.
At the worst, its just cropped down to 16mp apsc, which is plenty fine.
At 24mm and up, no cropping needed.

What I do in LR is I'd crop an image, then copy that setting and paste over all those picts taken with a crop lens.

Indeed.. something about it seems 'right' in terms of rendering, not just sharpness.
It also focuses rather close and has a rather good OOF rending.

The purpose that led me to trying the DA18-55 WR on the K1 was that I wanted the WR as I knew I'd get a bit wet.
