Just Recieved K-1 from Adorama ! Is there a proper Protocol ?

Just received my very own K-1 from Adorama a few minutes ago !

Is there some kind of proper Protocol when first unpacking and inspecting everything ?
Still in the stage of smelling the freshly manufactured Aroma......Lovely !

Should I jump right in and do a shutter actuation count and then immediately slap a lens on and take a test shot ? Or is it permissible to savor the aroma for a day or so until the moment is Right ?

Protocol....Protocol........whats the PF Protocol ?

Cant decide if I should break her in properly with a Takumar 24mm........or wait a couple days and use a more subtle Rikenon 105mm Macro approach.........or Maybe even a SMCK 35mm 3.5..........Descisions....descisions.......lol.

1. Rip box apart with teeth like a wild animal;
2. Tear the K-1 out of the bubble wrap like a lion gutting a zebra;
3. Slap battery and card in;
4. Crank lens on . . .

Enjoy!

In December of 2013 I took the wrapping paper off the K-3 box but I didn't open the box until the next afternoon. Last month I mounted a lens on my K-1 in the store! (BTW, your battery should have a partial charge. Nice touch, RICOH).

The only protocol is your protocol.

1) Lovingly unpack your K-1.
2) Slap in the fully charged and compatible battery from your K-3.
3) Spend the next hour in an agony of indecision, trying to decide which lens should get the honour of the first shot. In some ways, a Takumar would be most fitting, but there's a touch of humour in a Rikenon lens being first to get the honour.

It depends on how long you have waited.
For me, it was the "tissue protocol".
Happiness?
Relief?
Joy?
Cue the tissues.
Roll credits.

Cheese is in the mail..

... actually it's not.. because that would be messy. But you're welcome to send me the camera at your earliest convenience.

I actually wanted it to be my 28mm Rikenon XR 2.8......but in lieu of being Tarred and Feathered here on the Forum (Not too far from that anyway) I decided to not suggest that one......lol.

Yes.
Unpackage K-1.
Kiss K-1.
Worship the Camera God for bringing such a good camera.
Kiss K-1 again.
Choose the lens to be the first mounted.
Mount the lens while praying for a great photo.
Spend time choosing composition and exposure for the first photo.
Press the shutter button while thanking the Camera God.
Facepalm and insert battery and SD card.
Take the best photo ever.
Kiss the K-1 again.

You have now finished the K-1 protocol.

How Long ? How about over 14 Years ! That was when I stopped shooting Medium Format Film from my Mamiya RZ67 pro II E........that's a Loooooong Time. I was late to the Digital transition Party and have been playing catchup ever since....lol.
Relief is in order........whew.

I doubt anyone except the most rabid Pentax purists would actually mind. After all, without Ricoh, I suspect Pentax really would have been DOOOOOMED by now, or at the very least there would have been no K-1. So go on, slap it on. I will cheerfully admit that one of my top two contenders is the Rikenon-P 55mm f/1.2, and the other is the 50mm f/1.4 radioactive Super Tak.

Do NOT read the manual first! Just take it out and shoot something. Later you can take the K-1 to bed with you and everything you need to know will be transmitted by osmosis or something.
