I usually get up at 5 am, regardless of the day -- on vacation or not.

While I recognize the issue with extended total exposure time, wouldn't it be great if we could simultaneously use pixel shift and HDR in camera?

I don't think it would be very helpful in most situations. To have 12 exposures that didn't have movement between them would really be unlikely in a lot of settings (if there is movement the extra information is thrown out). Unfortunately, I don't know of any third party software that develops Pentax HDR raw images either so this would probably be a jpeg only image.

Honestly, there is enough dynamic range in most pixel shifted images that you don't need HDR, as long as you don't blow out your highlights.
