Checking firmware version is not possible without proper servicing equipment but "lens id" value from your exif file could give you a hint that firmware is updated. It is a usual procedure at Sigma to update firmware when lens is in service for some reason, so your firmware is probably updated. You can check that by comparing "lens id" value from a photo taken with that lens before and after servicing activities. Also you and @bk-photo probably have different lens ids.

OK, I was under the impression that lens-ID should remain constant. I can't find any difference between befor and after ID values. Also AF fine tunings are still valid on old bodies.

It SHOULD remain constant, and it really is constant with Pentax and Tamron lenses, but Sigma is completely another story because of their "famous" reverse engineering practice.

I'm about to get one (they don't come easily, and when I find one, it's a tough fight to get it), so, according to what I read here, the lens should work, if it doesn't it's about sending it in to Sigma for the update and K1 fix, and that's it?

I happened to get this lens, not having read about the issues Sigma had with K-1. On the K-S1 the lens worked all well.

Well, initially, the Sigma 50mm f1.4 lens froze up the K-1 camera when trying to take a pic. I took the lens and the camera to a local Sigma service, where they did the mentioned bayonet change and updated the firmware. 2 days turnaround time.

Now its working flawlessly. AF works in live view, and pictures can be taken.

I think it has to do with the lens-rom. One might have access to it via the Debug-Menu?
There are lens roms available:
LensRoms
but sadly not for the 50mm/f1.4 EX DG and some other HSM driven lenses.

My Sigma 50/1,4 HSM won't work on the KP, K70, KF either and possibly not on the K-3III

My 17-70 contemparory works fine.

So maybe a member having a serviced lens with the new lensrom can find out?
