Pentax K-1 does some horse racing

Today I could try my new DFA 150-450 at the setting I bought it for: Galopping horses.

Looking good, I would say it's doing the job you bought it for.

Excellent photos. AF tracking seems to work well with race horses.

Thanks for the kind feedback.

I am happy to now know the first Pentax original lens which has an AF drive fast enough for consistently focussing objects approaching to very close distance at 70 km/h. I bet the DFA 70-200 is no worse (but currently a little too expensive for me). The DFA 24-70 surely does this as well, but it's too short to compare at this application.

These shots were done with AF.C priority at Auto (1st shot) / Auto (later) again.

For those inclined to watching things in large, I uploaded another image as non-cropped 36 Mpx file of the last series here:

I am quite happy with both camera and lens performance.

Great shots! I prefer the non-cropped wide image. It provides a better idea of the tightness of the race.

Wow! Just Wow! Now I just have to ask - were these horses weaving in any way? I just have to know because apparently the K1 AF isn't supposed to work well.....

So.......They say the K1's AF is not suitable to sports action photos Eah? Looks to me like they should have tried it before they spoke! All VERY NICELY DONE!!
