Problem installing 1.3

I think I followed all the instructions, and I've done this before, so hopefully this is something simple. My battery is fully charged. I download the update and it's unpacked. I put the bin file on the sd card. It's sitting next to the folder that holds the images. I insert the card. I turn on the camera while holding the menu button down. Nothing happens, the camera just turns on.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

Format your card so there is nothing on it then copy and paste the Bin file to the card and you should be right.

That's exactly what I did. The only thing on it is the usual DCIM folder. Perhaps I should try a different card.

Figured it out! I had an older update still in the download folder on my mac so it was automatically adding an extension to the file name. Once I deleted everything and redownloaded everything went smoothly.

For Windows the downloaded file is a self-extracting file with a EXE extension. Click on this file or use an extraction program like WinRAR or WinZip to extract the xxxx.BIN file. Place the BIN file at the same level on the card as the DCIM folder. Remove any earlier BIN files.

The most common errors is not extracting the BIN file or placing it below the root level of the card.

It used to be, but now everyone just gets a zip file.

But yes, it seems that file naming/placement continues being the biggest problem.

The default in Windows is not to show the file extension, which no doubt adds to the confusion if the zip or exe files have the same name as the BIN file.

The first thing I do on any of my new Windows installs or machines is turn on showing the file extensions.
