No. Straight connection to the camera, using the phone as a USB host.
I quoted pathdog because the USB OTG does work for that also.

I have not been able to make my Samsung S6 or S7 phones or a T705 tablet recognise the K3, via OTG cable.

It is rather strange given that these devices all recognise a USB stick, and I would think the camera would present the same kind of USB profile.

It would be rather useful if that worked.

I haven't looked but some devices have a mode selection for what USB type they present when connected. Pictbridge or mass storage host for example. I need to look at my k3 to remember if that is a setting. If it is then you might have it set to the wrong one.

Yes - one setting presents the camera as a logical drive (like a USB stick, or an external USB HDD) and the other presents it as a media device.

The former is a lot more compatible than the latter, if you just want to transfer files.

Oddly enough most Canon pocket cameras (e.g. the S100 series) appear only as the latter.

My Samsung (android v4.4.2, v5 and v6) devices see neither mode.

Can anyone verify this with a K3 or K1, and any Samsung android device?

I have the K1 and posted something about the wifi here
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/190-pentax-k-1/321085-k-1-not-connecting-...ml#post3817007

It is poorly implemented for sure, but seems to work well enough.

I did the http://192.168.0.1/v1/apis suggested by Ajac and that works. It should be easy to knock up some javascript to produce a file listing in a web browser with that, I would hope?

The camera itself is great, despite being sooo much bigger and heavier (1.3kg v. 1.8kg) than the K3 (with 16-85 versus 24-70 lenses). It really at the very top end of what I want to carry around.

Some tests:

USB OTG connection:

Samsung S7, v6.x... phone crashes into the boot loader, and it corrupts the camera card.

Samsung T705, v4.4.2... it works fine.

WIFI connection:

Both above devices work, transfer speed is 300kbytes/sec (only!). The app has the same bug on both i.e. you have to use the "offline" mode, having manually connected to the camera in Settings/wifi.

The camera is excellent, as is the 24-70 lens. But you people knew that already

I don't know if this is applicable but there is a number of camera "remote control" apps in the android appstore, and some of these may work with the K1. Has anyone tried them?

It would be useful to have a wifi-PC connection (currently not possible unless somebody writes some code to drive the JSON interface) but then again the USB connection obviously works perfectly with windows, and is very fast.

Correction: from here
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/190-pentax-k-1/330677-pc-desktop-tetherin...orks-well.html
there may be a windows solution.

@peterh337 Going back to your first post, not sure if the problems you had with motion blur were due to SR? I have had problems getting sharp photos from K5 in an aircraft - the old SR seemed to translate the bumps into shake and put in erroneous corrections. It was much better with SR off in flight. The K1 now has the extra x & y sensitivity in the SR and has no problems in the air. Additionally, the GPS works fine in an airliner at cruise speeds, so a light composite should not be an issue.

Amazing camera! ;-)

OK... finally an update.

The K1 is vastly better stabilised than the K3. This is with both the 24-70 f2.8 and the Tamron 70-300 f4. I am getting handheld pics at silly speeds like 1/10 at 300mm which are sharp. And from the aircraft everything is much sharper

Handheld, 1/1000, from 4000ft:

The K1 also has much better autofocus, both in normal and LV modes. This is a crop from a pic at about 200mm (using the cheap 50-200mm f4-5.6 Pentax DA) and focusing on clouds often used to fail

So I am very pleased with the K1. Obviously it cost much more...

I have just sold the K3, 16-85, 50-200, 16-45, for £780 the lot, on Ebay. Somebody got great value for a complete and very good DSLR kit.

This post of mine might also interest some who have an older version of Lightroom and want the 24-70 f2.8 lens profile.
