K-1 Buttons

While on a long (but very worthwhile) commute to Seattle yesterday, I started fiddling with my K-1. I've never had a camera with quite this many buttons before, and I quickly became comfortable with all of them. Instead, I just wanted to mention how nice they are. Buttons that could be confused for each other are either placed at different heights, angled differently or shaped differently. For example, the green button has a green divot, the play button has no marker, and the card switch/AF select button is smaller than the other two.

I agree completely. Going from a K-5 to a K-1 I initially found the repositioning of some of the buttons confusing (on my first outing, for example, I kept hitting the green button instead of AF) but quickly adjusted and now found the layout entirely natural and very easy to use by touch alone.

mmm - coming from the K-3, I still keep going into Live View to review my pictures, but it's clear that a lot of thought has gone into a lot of aspects of the design - I think this was a very important camera for Ricoh/Pentax, and they've produced a lovely object as well as a great picture taking machine

My only gripe is the autofocus button (for back-button focus) is angled such that it does not fit nicely onto my thumb. While with the K5 I needed back button focus, I have reverted to half press shutter for focus.

I too went into live-view many times till my muscle memory kicked in.

But all-in-all, the K1 is a great, well laid out camera.

I also really like the animation on-screen of the different scroll wheels turning as you turn them on the camera. It's the little things.
