K1 back now..what is best 24mm lens??

Hi now I got another K1, after the 1st one was defective..
what options for a min 24mm wide angle lens is there? I know the DFA 24-70 should be good, but only need 24-35mm or so? I see SIgma did a 24 1.8 for Pentax a few years ago,but is it sharp in the corners?
has anyone heard of Sigma doing a 24-105 ART lens for K mount?
thanks for any help

No new Sigma lenses for K mount.

I was about to recommend the D-FA 15-30. You could also look at the FA lenses, a lot of solid glass there in the FA 20, FA* 24 and FA Limited 31mm.

I have the Samyang 24mm F1.4. It's a manual focus lens. It's very sharp, very contrasty. Colors are slightly different than Pentax but still a very nice lens.

I have the FA*24. It's not great, to be honest, but it's solid and once you learn it's many quirks, you can get great results with it. It's not sharp corner to corner until past f/8, for one, and it has a bit of a rubbery rendering, except if you can get good light and stop it to f/10. The it does some cool stuff! Its pinhole effects are awesome and it has a power in the way it renders lines.

I don't use it a lot but here's the few shots I have taken with it:

FA* 24 F2.0 comes to mind and its a big beast but check out the reviews. I am happy with my copy.
If you want a decent zoom, you can check out the Pentax FA 20-35mm F4 or the Tokina variants 20-35mm.
I have the FA 20-35mm and Tokina 20-35mm F3.5-4.5. They both do nicely but the Pentax is definitely the better one
in terms of color and sharpness.

Check out this thread on the Tokina and Pentax 20-35

FA* 24 mm
FA 31mm

Best lenses you can buy. The FA* 24mm is harder to find since it isn't made anymore.

Good luck! Happy hunting.

I would get 25mm Zeiss ZK f/2.8. It has unique rendering at close distance and it is usable stopped down for landscapes (some field curvature).

Yes the 15-30 or 24-70 were options..but price is too much now ..running 2 systems now..Nikon for Birds & K1 for the rest
I have the DA 12-24 ,but a bit funky on the K1.. & an old Sigma 24 2.8 Oly mount..but no way to adapt it without a glass inbetween ... Fotodiox adapters

Shanti, Yes, my first copy of the Samyang 24mm was/is fine. I'm not saying the colors are bad- just different. I also always shoot RAW and later process with Lightroom & DxO Optics Pro. Yes, the Rokinon 135mm is the same/re-branded Samyang. In the studio I use all four full-frame lenses I own with the same lighting setup- (Samyang 24mm, Sigma 35mm, Pentax 77mm, and the Rokinon 135mm). The Pentax 77mm has more reds and blues. The Samyang & Rokinon have more greens & browns. And the Sigma seems to have more yellows. I'm sure if a buy a passport color checker I can adjust the RAW images in Lightroom so they reflect the true color of the scenes. One would definitely need to adjust the color based on the camera/lens combo... The Rokinon 135mm F2.0 is probably my sharpest lens I own, even at F2.0. I'm just saying that one should be aware that every lens handles color slightly differently. For fashion photography, besides doing white balance, color adjustments so the final finished photo reflects the true color of the fabric/material are mandatory.

The older 24mm Sigma f1.8 still gets used by me. Top pic on the K-S1, bottom on the K-1.

I have the Samyang 24mm as well, which is sharper but isn't autofocus.

The K24/2.8 is surprisingly good for f8-f11 work.
I had mine adjusted to focus a bit past infinity to get the edges to be better and after that, no complaints for me on IQ esp when considering the size of the lens (ie. not big)

I did not like the f1.8 Sigma 28 and 24mm (and for that matter the FA*24), they all seemed to be catered for fast aperture nearer focus distance work, giving good isolation and low light ability, but for infinity focused f8-f11 stuff, the off center was not that sharp imo.
Probably field curvature and the combination of the thick filter stack of the un-modded A7 I tried all 3 lenses on; So it may differ on the K1.

For the K24/2.8, put it this way.
At first, I was not satisfied with it on the K1 and was planning to get a Zeiss 25/2.5, but once I resolved the issues with the focus adjustment, I gave up the idea.

FA*24 is excellent stopped down, and has *character* wide open. If you want technically perfect and boring, it's not the lens for you.

I reckon the DFA15-30 is better @ 24mm the than the DFA24-70.

DFA 24-70mm is excellent lens and much better than Sigma 24-105mm.
At my local Sigma dealer 24-105 is 799€:
24-105 / 4

ART HSM
HSM
82
Torba
C N S P
799

I ve'heard that Sigma lens have a lot of vignetting on full frame cameras and it is optically not better than Pentax D-FA 28-105 except it is wider and a little bit faster on tele end.
If you want cheap and very good lens in that range get yourself good copy of second hand Pentax F 24-50mm f/4.
I am very impressed with F24-50. Usable at f/4.5, excellent at f/5.6 and great at f/8, f/11.
It is not weather sealed, construction is typical for F series lenses but image quality on K-1 is great.

This is a tricky one. I would say they are about equal but 15-30 has less distortion. 15-30 is excellent up to ~20mm barrier then it begins to degrade smoothly towards 30mm end.
